Aquarium Fish Keeping Articles
I’m writing these fish keeping beginner’s guides to try and help newcomers to this fascinating hobby as well as those returning after a break like me. Some hobbies involve quite a steep learning curve; keeping a successful aquarium is no exception. As the welfare of living creatures is involved it’s vital to get to grips with the basics for keeping fish healthy, happy and stress-free.
When I re-embarked on my fish keeping journey after a twenty-year gap I was amazed at the amount of information available. The internet had arrived in my absence and with it so many conflicting sources of information that it took a while to sift through and separate the wheat from the chaff.
There’s a lot of good information out there, but also a lot more that is ill-informed. It can be a nightmare trying to wade through it all and reach some conclusion about what’s really needed to give the fish we keep a decent quality of life.
With that in mind, I hope to cover the basics including choosing equipment and tank decorations, fishless cycling and choosing your first fish. Further articles on more complex areas will be available when you’re ready to move on.
